While there are many traditional flowers used in wedding ceremonies, many brides want a more modern twist on their overall ceremony and reception. The old way of peonies and nosegays is being replaced by more exotic, contemporary wedding flowers. Depending on the season and location of your wedding, you can put a modern twist on your bouquet as well.
There are many choices out there, and each type of flower brings its own symbolism to your wedding. For an elegant modern flower, think about calla lilies. There are many different color options including white, yellow, flame and burgundy. Tulips are also very popular, as they come in different colors to match your overall theme. The red version symbolize love, the yellow ones stand for hopelessly in love and the cream-colored ones mean long-lasting love.
Hydrangeas are also being more commonly used due to their cluster shape and color options of blue, purple, white and pink. The white bell-shaped flowers that are popular are lily of the valley. Many brides that want a simple touch use daisies. Hyacinths and irises are very fragrant and come in stalks with many flowers. Their colors include purple, yellow, blue and white.
The first step in choosing the ideal flower type is to think about the time of year of the wedding. For springtime ceremonies, think of bright colors, textured blooms and more. Good types for this are hydrangeas, lilacs, tulips, cymbidium orchids and ranunculus. Modern summertime weddings include many different types of roses, which can be arranged to be quite modern using long stemmed and hybrid types.
You can also use the flowers in non-traditional ways like thank you gifts, decorations on the bride and groom’s vehicle, on the wedding cake, floating in fountains or pools, and even replacing the veil with flowers on the bride.
